Tibet Overland Tour
Overview
Tibet has been an unexplained and eternal land for centuries, cut off from the rest of the world by the great Himalayas. In the face of modernization, it has kept the beauties of its past, such as the charming Gompas, olden markets, ever-smiling, and fun-loving Tibetans, and its astonishing turquoise lakes.
Our overland trips offer you enough time to visit Lhasa, which has long been known as the prohibited City. The Mighty Potala Palace, Drepung Monastery, Barkhor market, and the holy Jokhang Temple are just a few of the attractive sights we will take you to. We will additionally take you on an exotic trip next to the friendship highway to the famous Tashilhump Monastery at Xigatse.
Short Itinerary
Day 01: Driving 141 Km. to Tatopani, a border town in Nepal. The drive is picturesque and part of the road is in good condition. Transborder formalities. Procedures will be finished and your hotel will be allocated.
Day 02: From Zhangmu, it is a 251 km drive to Seger. The drive adds elevation as it crosses slide tracks to Nyalam. Visit Milarepa's cave where he is imaginary to have attained explanation.
Day 03: A short hike to sight the far-away Mt. Everest is known as Qomolangma in Chinese. Then drive to Xigatse (The second-largest city in Tibet ) via Sakya Monastery, The Monastery is 143 km south of Xigatse, overnight at Xigatse.
Day 04: At Xigatse you will visit Tashilhunpo Monastery which is the seat of the Panchen Lama who is second in spiritual significance only to the Dalai Lama. The monastery was built in 1447 by Gendun Drup and once housed uphill of 3400 monks. Of meticulous attention at Tashilhunpo is a nine-story gilded statue of Maitreya - the "Future Buddha". A short drive of 95 km will take you to Gyantse.
Day 05: Drive to Lhasa early in the morning, a 259 km drive will obtain you via Yamdrok Tso or the "Turquoise Lake", overnight at Lhasa hotel.
Day 06: Spending this day on exploration Palaces. Will be headed to the Potala Palace first, the palace of the Dalai Lama, a wealth of Tibetan culture. It was built in the seventh century by Tsongtsen Gampo as a fort and later refurbished by the Fifth Dalai Lama in the seventeenth century to its present stipulations. Your next stop will be Norbulingkha, the winter palace of the Dalai Lama, built in the eighteenth century.
Day 07: Visit the World’s Largest Drepung monastery, which once housed 10,000 monks and nuns. It was built in 1419 and the second, third and fourth Dalai Lama lived and were entombed here. A visit to the kitchen of this monastery is a must. The next stop will be the Jokhang Temple and then stop off at Barkhor Bazaar outside the Jokhang monastery. This is an active market and is, generally, the place to buy souvenirs.
Day 08: Drive to the airport in the morning, and fly back to Kathmandu, which is perhaps one of the most stunning flights in the world.
