Chitwan Jungle Safari

Chitwan Jungle Safari, probably the most popular activity in Chitwan, is one of the major attractions of tourists traveling to Nepal. The word ‘Chitwan’ literally translates into “heart of the jungle” and the place is named so because of its dense forests and wildlife. Chitwan National Park, the first national park of Nepal is enlisted in the list of UNESCO’s world heritage sites and it is rich in flora and fauna. This national park is home to over 60 different species of mammals, 400 different species of birds, and 65 varieties of butterflies in forests of Sal trees, riverine vegetation, and savanna.

There are several ways of exploring the Chitwan Jungle. Elephant safari is the most famous way to do so. Riding on the back of the largest land animal and exploring the best of Chitwan National Park is a matter of excitement and joy. On elephant safari, you can easily spot single-horned rhinoceros which are probably the most famous wildlife in Chitwan. Other wildlife that you have a high chance of seeing includes forest deer, wild boar, sambar deer, red muntjac (barking deer), Indian porcupines, rhesus monkeys, peasant, Indian cuckoo, etc. There used to be about 3000 Bengal tigers at one time but only about 150 Bengal tigers are left now. If you are lucky, you might spot a tiger. A maximum of four people can ride an elephant at a time.

Other ways to explore the Chitwan jungle are Jeep safari and jungle walks. Jeep safari is a great way to explore wildlife as it takes you to areas further inside the national park that are less trodden. Canoeing can also be done along the Rapti River.
