“Climbing is as close as we can come to flying.” -Margaret Young
Bokta Peak or Bohktoh Peak is a majestic trekking peak situated in the Himalayan region close to the world’s third-highest peak Kanchenjunga. With an altitude of 6142 meters above sea level, the peak is listed as a group ‘A’ climbing peak by the Department of Tourism Nepal. Bokta peak is vastly admired by the climbers and trekkers. Bokta peak climbing defines the word ‘adventure’. The climbing of Bokta peak can be a special one for avid trekkers because it provides thrilling adventure in the wilderness and less crowded part of the Himalayan range. From the summit of the peak, you can view the breathtaking views of Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586m) and other peaks including Nepal Peak (7177m), Kirat Chuli Peak (7365m), Kumbhakarna (7710m), and Dormo Peak (6855m). The expedition for Bokta peak climbing takes you to a remote area with pristine wilderness and local settlements of Kirat people, the oldest indigenous ethnic group of Nepal. Bokta peak climbing provides you an opportunity to witness untouched natural splendor and to interact with local people.
Our Bokta peak climbing package is carefully designed with proper acclimatization. It starts from Biratnagar. We reach Basantapur from where we begin our trek towards the Kanchenjunga region. We follow both base camps of Mt. Kanchenjunga, namely Pangpema and Oktang. The latter one is closer to Bokta Peak. We continue our trek to reach Bokta peak base camp (5123m) via Ramche. We ascend the peak to reach its high camp where you will be taught about climbing techniques like fixing rope, how to ascend and descend, etc. by our climbing guide. We begin our climb and feel euphoric upon reaching the summit. The view from the summit of the peak is simply breathtaking. After achieving this feat, we descend the peak to get back to the base camp. We trek back to Ramche and reach Suketar to catch a flight back to Kathmandu.
Climbing Bokta Peak is strenuous and quite demanding. Good cardiovascular fitness and previous climbing experience are required for it. The best times for Bokta peak climbing are March to May and September to December.
