Nagarkot is a famous place to see the mountain ranges and sunrise. It lies at an altitude of 2211m and is located 30 km north east of Kathmandu. (approx. 1 hour drive). If weather is good, one can see great views of Himalayas including Annapurna, Langtang, Dorje Lakpa, Gauri Shanker and Ganesh Himal. The mountain flight that goes each day to show Everest and other Himalayas from Kathmandu goes via the Nagarkot route.
Many visitors go to Nagarkot to see sunrise. Once the sun begins to rise from behind the Himalayas, it looks spectacular as mountain changes its color. However to see the sunrise, visitors have to go to Nagarkot at 4 o’clock in the morning.
Nagarkot is also a good place for day hiking. One can hike from Changu Narayan, Sundarijal, Banepa, and Nala and also from Sankhu Bajrayogini.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square is a conglomeration of pagoda and shikhara – style temples grouped around a fifty-five-window palace of brick and wood. The square is one of the most charming valley as it highlights the ancient of the kings perched on top of stone monoliths, the guardian deities looking out from their sanctuaries, the wood carvings in very place – struts, lintels, tympanums, gateways and windows – all seem to form a well orchestrated symphony.
The most popular bird watching on the Valley rim situated 20 km South East of Kathmandu, with some 265 species recorded to date. The birds seen here included babblers, warblers, tits, thrushes, minivets, woodpeckers, eagles and many migrant birds. Godavari, at the foot of Fulchoki hill where the Royal Botanical Garden is situated, records over 100 species of birds including the lesser racket-tailed drongo, Tibetan siskin and the spotted fork tail.

Early in the morning, immediate after breakfast drive by Land cruiser to the Foothill of the Fulchoki equipped with Binocular, book and packed lunch. The Godavari Garden is the only botanical garden of Nepal situated in the foothill. You ca start to enjoy the birds from this garden. From here onward, we drive some time and walk sometime depends upon the birds site. You will have Lunch in the hill and return from the Hill again by walking plus driving. You can enjoy the landscape during driving of 20 Km.
Kakani is a hill station on the northern side of Kathmandu. It is in Nuwakot district, 29km away from Kathmandu and is accessible by road. The drive takes just 1 and half hour. The place is famous for its breathtaking scenery and a lot of potential for day hiking – and if you are interested you can extend your hikes to a number of days.
After breakfast, we drive 29 kms north of Kathmandu to Kakani. The drive itself is interesting as we get past numerous villages negotiating the road that seems to have never ending bends. The scenery on the way is magnificent. But the thing of true beauty is saved for the moment we arrive in Kakani – the whole vista just opens up on the north side as we get off our vehicle. To the north are some of the world’s highest mountains including Manaslu, Annapurna, Ganesh Himal, Gaurishankar and many (yes many mountains).
